Chancellor Helmut Kohl

Helmut Josef Michael Kohl was born on the 3 April.1930  in Ludwigshafen on the Rhine and he died in 2017.  He was chancellor of West Germany (1982–1998) and reunified Germany (1991).  In 1973 he became chairman of the Christian Democratic Union, leading the opposition in the West German Bundestag, where he engineered a no-confidence vote against Social Democrat Helmut Schmidt who's party then joined the CDU in coalition and Kohl became chancellor.
